Jaxson Nathan Hoye

So, Jaxson is almost 16 months old. Some of his favorite things to do are: Pull everything out of the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen, "help" us load and un-load the diswasher, go to the park - well anything that is outside, climb the stairs, be in his uncle Josh's room, play in the truck, play with Roxy, dance, and many other activities. Things he is saying: "Nooooo" and "No mama", "get down", "good job", "but plane" (for Airplane), and a ton of other single words like "hot", "ball", "pa pa", "co co", "ra ra" (for Roxy), "baby", "cookie", "turkey", "melllllooon" (with his tounge sticking out, for melon)....and so on. We still haven't given him his first haircut...and we need to - it's getting a little long. Jaxson likes to eat healthy food like any kind of fruit, but especially melon, and berries and kiwi. He likes cottage cheese a lot, and turkey. He is a little bit of a picky eater, but then sometimes he likes things I think he wouldn't - like tomatoes, and mushrooms. He loves to be around people - especially crowds - but then when he meets someone new, he tends to be a little shy, initially. He has mastered walking and now is running. He likes to expierement with walking down stairs, even though he knows he'll tumble....makes me terribly nervous. He is a sweet lover boy, gives us kisses all the time , it's the best!!!!

I gotta keep it short, Jaxson is running around....not really running, but definitly walking fast. We had an awesome Halloween, Jaxson was Yoda. He actually didn't mind being in the costume contrary to how he looks in this picture. We visited my Mom at her work and showed off our little Jedi Master. In the evening we hung out on the Wharf where they had a Halloween extravaganza for kids - it was fun. He ate his first sweet, cotton candy. He liked it OK, which is fine with me. I have to say, one of the best things right now, is feeling like I am re-living MY childhood. I see things differently...or maybe it's just that I am taking the time to really SEE things. Jaxson is a curious, smart, loving boy. I am very proud of him.

13 Months Old

I have a ton of pics and video to put up....but I gotta find the time. So much has happened....Jaxson turned 1 and is walking!!!!!!!! Here are a few pics to hold you over, from when we went to New Brighton State Beach. Ryan's dad had a campsite there - we ate burger's made somores and watched the fireworks from the annual Monty Foundation festival. It was Jaxson's first firework show - he watched intently and pointed at his favorite ones. Thank you Hoye's for a fun night at the campsite!

Jaxson loves Banana's. He says "nana" as soon as he sees one. This particular day I just let him have the whole thing. I think he felt quite empowered eating his very own "nana" like a big boy.

Grandpa Steve turned 60! We partied hard. Unfortunately I don't have any pics from the big celebration at DeLaveaga Park. We were to busy chasing Jaxson around. No - he's not walking yet, but we brought his little push walker toy, and he was cruising all over with that thing.

These pics are from Grandpa Steve's (and his twin, uncle Jim) birthday dinner. It was a perfect evening at the Crow's Nest - I mean perfect. The weather was awesome! We sat out on the deck and had a wonderful meal. Jaxson was in great spirits that evening, and he just sat there and entertained us all. It was really fun.

All is well in the Hoye household. We are enjoying the best time of year in Santa Cruz right now. We have lot's of great things to look forward to as the year starts winding down - Jaxson's 1st birthday, my dad's 60th birthday, our 4th wedding anniversary, a Tina Turner concert (whoo hoo Momma's night out!), and a trip to Mexico! Life is good.

Yep, in only a month and a half, Jaxson will turn 1. I can't believe it. I've been thinking a lot lately about when I was pregnant with him and the bond we were creating while I was carrying him. It's amazing. I don't think I realized how strong that bond was. Now that he's been here for a while, and his personality shines strong, he was just the same while he was in my belly. Active, persistent (hence the breech position), hiccups all the time (although that is getting better), but it's also the spiritual aspect too. The energy. The peaceful times. The Love. This little guy is a lover. And it's the best.

Well, here I am again trying to catch up on my blogging. I rarely have time to sit at this computer for more than a second. And, I know I've already pointed this out, but let me just say it again - Jaxson is an active boy! He's a mover and a shaker....and we love it!....Ok, let me be honest, I love it 99.5% of the time - this kid tires me out! Not to mention, he's still not a sleeper - surprise, surprise ;) Ryan on the other hand, I think he loves it 100% of the time. Sometimes I try and mellow him out, put him in his play pen with a few toys (that's mellow for him), but that will only last 5 minutes best. The other day I was trying to get something done, and let him fuss a little while he was in the playpen, he would push is face up against the mesh walls, as trying to tell me get me out of here. When I did get him out, he had rubbed his little nose raw - I felt bad. And Sad, because now, I can't leave him in there for any longer than he wants to be in there. It's ok, I have other ways of strapping him down when I'm trying to accomplish something - like his stroller, or his high chair. Jaxson's favorite past time right now is crawling the stairs. He would do it hours on end if he could. He leads, and we follow (closely) behind him. He likes it when we say "I'm gonna get you", and we tickle his feet - he'll giggle all the way up. We are trying to teach him how to get down - but he prefers to dive head first. Another thing Jaxson has mastered, is pulling himself up - on everything. Tonight he was standing right next to me at the stove while I was cooking dinner, turning all the knobs (guess I gotta child proof a little better). We are trying to teach him "hot"! when he gets close to the fire place or now, the stove. I think he's getting it...actually we think he's on the verge of saying "hot". He's also on the verge of saying "dog", and "up".
Jaxson had his 9 month check up this last Thurs. (2 weeks late), and he weighed in at 24 lbs 13 oz. He's in the 97th percentile for height, the 95th percentile for weight and the 90yh percentile for head circumference. He eats about 2-3 solid meals a day, with breast milk and formula. And he nurses all through the night! I can't believe in 2 1/2 months our baby is going to be a toddler. Well to me, he's still gonna be my precious baby boy - I don't think that will change for many years to come....

We took Jaxson to the beach a few weeks back. He definitely a beach baby. He just wanted to be crawling all over in the sand, and if he could of, he would have been swimming in the ocean.

This next pic, is after a little wipe out Jaxson had in the ocean. Gasp! It was one of those things where Ryan and I were both watching him and we took our eye off him for a second, and all of a sudden, swoosh, a baby wave crashed on our beach babe. I about lost it - but he was totally fine. Even after a wave went over his head, and he swallowed 10 gallons of salt water. He just wanted to go back for more!

Needless to say after the wipe out, we signed up for swim lesson - thanks to Grandma Mema! Thanks Mom!

A LOT has Happened!

Jaxson has been keeping us busy! So busy, that in the last 3 weeks, i've tried to sit here numerous times to compose a blog and haven't been able to because....Jaxson is mobile! Well, he's been mobile for a while, when he started steam rolling like 3 1/2 months ago...but now he's crawling - all over. He started really trying about 1 1/2 months ago. We knew it wouldn't be long because he was doing the scoot-scoot on his hands and knees, and the army crawl. Then about 2 weeks ago BAM! he started crawling. Now he's a pro. He's fast too. He likes to search for tiny treasures or wires and plugs - keeps us on our toes!
Jaxson has also learned how to play patty cake. It is truly the cutest thing. He'll clap when we sing to him or when he does something he thinks is really cool - he'll give himself a round of applause.
Here is a video of the first day he started crawling. Ryan yelled for me to get the camera, so we got a little of it on film. In the meantime, there have been many more hours of crawling footage...so keep an eye out for that!

In addition there have been some other exciting new developments - April has been an eventful month. First off, Jaxson's diet is becoming wider and wider. In addition to breastmilk and formula, Jaxson eats all kinds of things - Avocado, sweet potato, bannana, yogurt, squash, mango, pears, carrots, peas, and oatmeal. His favorite so far are pears and peas - he LOVES those.

Secondly, Jaxson got his first two pearly whites! And yes, they are sharp. Believe me, I know. I thought Jaxson started teething like 4 months ago, when the drool factory was in full force, and I thought, humph, this teething thing is cake....I was wrong. About 1 week before the teeth popped up, Jaxson got unusually fussy, sleep patterns changed, and he had red painful swollen gums - poor guy. To get through it, he sucked on Ice (in a mesh bag with handle so he can hold it - cool baby device), frozen bananna, and icy cold teething rings. As soon as those puppies poked through, we were in the clear! Now only 18 more to go, ugh.
So yes, a lot has happened in the last month. Jaxson continues to grow and change, and we love it!

So, we got Jaxson this awesome new Ducky. It's so great! I may even love it more than Jaxson....No, he REALLY loves it! When you press it's beak, it even quacks! Now that Jaxson can sit on his own, it was perfect timing for a bath with the duck. He was splashing, and laughing - so fun.

We had a really nice, relaxing Easter. No Easter baskets, or egg hunts - which is fine, because I have a feeling there will be plenty of those in our future. We got to see Great Grandma Nonnie at the Massey's beach house.

Then we took a brief stroll to Uncle Dennis and Aunt Margaret's house for a YUMMY brunch. Jaxson, of course, entertained us all.

And he got some good lovin' from a few of his great aunts!

A lot has happened in the past few weeks! Jaxson is continuing to entertain us. He is a big bundle of energy! He outgrew his infant car seat, and got his big boy car seat, that hopefully he'll have for a while. I don't think he quite likes it as much as his old seat - for a few reasons:

First off, there are no place for his FAVORITE friends, the bugs - so we moved them to his jumper and his papasan seat, but I think he still misses them during his car rides.....especially because he had figured out how to reach up, grab them, and put them in his mouth! Another reason he'll miss the infant seat, is because it used to detach and come out of the car. Now, with the big boy seat, he has to be physically removed in and out. Oh well!

Another thing that Jaxson is quite fond of, are his feet! He loves to play with his feet, and clap them together, and even snack on them, like he his doing here!

Jaxson is still loving his bouncer more than ever. This particular time, and think he bounced himself out!

Jaxson continues to be extremely animated - I love the pouty lip, he does that well.

Another exciting milestone, was his first solids! Jaxson got to try some avocado, which he loved! He was a pro at eating it as well.

So, yesterday me and mommy went to our friends house - Jessika and Jamilah. Jamilah is just 6 weeks younger than me. Jessika made mommy a nice lunch, and while they ate, Jamilah and I just hung out. After they ate, we played. It was fun. Mommy took some pictures of us, and Jamilah and I held hands....just for a little bit, no big deal....but I sure do like her!

So, it's been a while since my mom has written or posted any pictures on my blog, so I told her I would do it. We've been having lots of fun! I learned to roll over and now I do it ALL the time! I can do it really fast now - I'm like a steam roller - I LOVE it! I've spent the first four months of my life on my back, so now I like to be on my belly. I'm trying to prepare for crawling. Sometimes my dad helps me try, I can't wait to learn it! Here are some pictures of me on my belly....
PS - don't worry about the drool, I drool ALOT, and it doesn't bug me...my mom thinks i'm teething, we'll see!

Jaxson is 4 Months!

Well, here I am again....another month has gone by and I can't believe it! I REALLY can't believe that 4 months ago, Jaxson was still in my belly - it seems just like yesterday. Although, when I look at him now, I can't believe he was in my belly! He is a big boy, whew! Jaxson weighs about 17 lbs 10 oz, he's doubled his birth weight, and is 27 inches long. According to the percentiles, he's in the 85th percentile for weight, and the 95th percentile for height. Jaxson's hair seems to be getting lighter and we are still not sure what color his eyes are...i'm predicting hazel or brown.

Jaxson rolled onto his belly this morning (at 5AM)....he woke up for a diaper change, and was wiggling all around, and right before our eyes he rolled (quickly!) onto his belly, looked up and smiled! He's been working on this for the past week, so I knew it was coming soon.
Some things that Jaxson loves to do: Sit on top of daddy's shoulders, "fly" in the air, swing in his swing, look at fish aquariums, look at other babies and kids, take showers (not baths), watch mommy dance, listen to mommy sing (this is true!), yell and squeal, and believe it or not, get his diaper changed (most of the time). Some things that Jaxson doesn't like: Sleep.
Jaxson is not really a napper - he'll take 2-3 30 minute naps a day (if i'm lucky). He also doesn't like to sleep in his crib - he prefers our TempurPedic mattress (well duh).
Jaxson is a Joy. He continues to grow and change and I will never get tired of watching him discover his world.

Jaxson likes sitting in his highchair. However, this particular time he got really sick of me taking his picture. You'll see......

Ryan, Jaxson, Roxy, and I had a mellow New Years Eve. We watched a movie, I made dinner from my new Rachael Ray cookbook (buffalo chicken w/ carrot & celery slaw mmmm), and fell asleep on the couch by the fire by 11:00. The fireworks woke us up at midnight -
"Happy New Year"!
New year's day we took a sunset walk on the beach. Jaxson loved staring at the sky with the pretty colors. and we, of course, loved just starring at him.

What an amazing year 2007 has been! Jaxson has been a blessing in our lives and we are so thankful for him. He is changing so quickly! We got his first real belly laugh on Christmas Eve...what a gift! Jaxson also got to finally meet his Auntie for the first time! 2007 has been a special year for our family for sure.

Catching up on Sleep

Yep, you've read it right folks, we got a sleeper. Well almost. Jaxson has almost grown out of his nocturnle stage. I'm guessing, pretty soon, he'll be sleeping through the night. Even now, I can't complain - he'll wake up maybe 2 times in the night to eat, and then fall right back to sleep. What a guy.

And, we're getting lots of smiles too! Those smiles just melt our hearts. So cute.

Those cute little smiles get us through the small amount of hard times, fussy times. Yep, I would say Jaxson has a minor case of colic - really minor. Poor little guy just has a hard time digesting sometimes.

Another exciting development, Jaxson is lifting his head! Sometimes he grunts, and growls when he's working really hard. However as soon as he has realized what he has done, his eyes just light up - he gets to see everything from a different perspective, and he really likes it! Yeah!

4 weeks ago...

Four weeks ago, I can easily say was the best day of our lives. Jaxson has truly blessed us. We can't get enough of him! This last month has been amazing. It really has gone by so quick. Everyone tells you the time will fly, and it's so true.
We had another doctor visit yesterday, Jaxson weighed in at 10 lbs 5 oz. He's right where he should be, in the 50th percentile for weight for his age. His cheeks are cute and chubby, and his thighs have a few little baby rolls, but really his weight is coming from his length. He's measuring 23 inches, which puts him in the 75th percentile for length. He also had a "sticky eye" (made me so sad for him). The doctor recommended putting breast milk in it, and so we have, and it's already much better. That breast milk is crazy good stuff.
He still is amazing us with his strength. Hi lifts his head and looks around. He kicks his feet and likes to push up with them. We gave him a rattle and he likes to hold it and move it around.
He is a very vocal little boy too. He makes little squeaks and ooohs. He even said "Mommy"..... just kidding. But he does make little sounds that actually sound like words with the cutest little faces, it's pretty funny.

We took a walk down westcliff. The cold water classic was going on so there were lots of people to show Jaxson off to. We got him all dressed up for his big outing.

Jaxson's Third Week!

We took Jaxson to the Doctor yesterday to check in and get him weighed. He's a whopping
9lbs 5oz! The boy is growing by the day. He's a strong boy too. He should be crawling any day now. Seriously...he lifts his head and does a little crawl when he's on daddy's chest. I know, it will be a while before he goes mobile, but he's definitely a strong little guy. His belly button thingy came off and healed, so we got to take our first real bath. He LOVES the bath!

Jaxson is a very good baby. He lets us know when he needs something, and when we he gets it, he's usually quite content. He's definitely been more alert this week, having several periods throughout the day where he just wants to look around. You can see when he focuses in on something and then he makes the funniest faces.....so cute. He sleeps well too. I mean for a 3 week old. I would say we've been averaging about 5 hrs a night - 1 hr here, 2 hrs there. He's been pretty predictable which is nice. Of course, there are times when it's hard - more like hard for me. I'm constantly looking in the baby book every 5 minutes to make sure like gas, and spitting up is normal. Ryan re-assures me it is. I need to learn to worry a little less - I am working on that.
Let's see, we had a few field trips, but not many. I do have to say this kid loves car rids. We took him to the beach, but it was short lived. It was really windy, not a place for a little baby. Maybe we'll try next week. We also went to Grandma and Grandpa Webber's place, Jaxson got a nice long nap in Grandma's arms.
We had some visitors too - Grandpa and Grandma Hoye. They brought us a yummy dinner (and a fruit tart from the Farm..yummy).
They brought us some awesome pictures they took on Jaxson's Birthday. I'll post a few. I will also post some pics from this last week. We have a lot of pictures! We will probably be downloading them on another website specially for pictures.....I'll keep you updated when we do.

Jaxson's Second Week

So, We are going to try and keep up on this blog thing. We got the idea from our friends Jessica and Nate who just had baby Nigel in June. They live in New Mexico, so it's cool it check out his blog from time to time and see him growing. Actually we got a visit from Jessica and Nigel....Jaxson's first friend! Nigel and Jaxson liked to scream in unison....or as Jessica put it, they were exercising their lungs.
We also had a few other visitors - Ryans mom Elaine came over and made us soup and pumpkin muffins. It was great to have a nice home cooked meal - Thanks Grandma Elaine!
Also, my parents came over and brought us dinner ( a big fat steak for me!), and loved on Jaxson for a while - Thanks Papa Joe and Mema!.....or whatever he ends up calling you.

We have been holed up at home, getting used to being parents, changing diapers, staring at Jaxson - you know watching him breath, and sleep and make funny faces, and also working on nursing....which has been a little harder then expected. We have been on a tight feeding schedule, which hasn't made it easy to connect with the outside world. All your calls, and messages have been great and supportive and we truly appreciate them all. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will be able to have more visitors and reach out and share Jaxson a little bit more.
We have managed to stage some photo shoots with Jaxson. This one we did especially for his Auntie. He misses her, and wanted to put on a special outfit for her.....green babies rule!

Jaxson Nathan Hoye made his arrival on September 18, 2007 @ 8:25 am. He came via a scheduled c-section because he was breech. The delivery went smooth, although he must have been quite comfortable because it took the docs a little extra work to get him out. I won't get graphic, you can ask Ryan about it, because he watched the whole thing. And I, watched Ryan's eyes light up as they pulled him out. He cried immediately, the cutest cry I ever heard. Ryan attended to Jaxson, and brought him over to me so we could meet.

I soon forgot that I had a team of people working on me, and could only think of how grateful I was to finally meet this little guy. Proud papa brought his son out to meet his grandparents.

I met up with them shortly after. We all loved on him like the little prince he is. We were discharged from the hospital 2 days early, which we were thankful for because we weren't getting any sleep. The only thing was that as we were leaving, they weighed Jaxson one last time, and found that he had lost a little more weight than the norm....and also found that his bilirubin levels were increasing, which would indicate Jaundice. We promised to bring him back in the morning for a blood test to get an accurate count of the bilirubins and found it again had increased. This started a chain of blood tests, and Dr. visits in the days proceeding. We hadn't pictured that when we finally got him home, that we would be carting this little pot of gold all over in his young days, getting poked and examined, it was a little hard to bear, and by Sunday we found out that his bilirubin levels were getting too high. The docs decided to re-admit him to the hospital for light therapy. This was really disappointing, but at the same time we were relieved because we just wanted him to get better. We stayed the next 18 hours with him. We watched him the whole time under the lights, laying there like he was at the beach. He also kept trying to rip his eye protectors off, so we had to make sure they stayed on.

We are now home and working on fattening the little guy up. It's amazing how fast the days have gone by already. Here are some more of my favorite pictures from Jaxson's first week.
